Rose Lore

Have you ever noticed how roses seem to be everywhere? I mean, think about it. You can buy them in the grocery store, sleep on sheets printed with them, plaster your walls with rose wallpaper. You find them embroidered on sweatshirts for grannies and hot tea seems to be best friends with rose china.

When we describe things, for instance, we might say they are rosy, as in a child's rosy cheeks. If we experience a particularly beautiful sunrise we could say it was a rose dawn. Little successes during the day make us feel like things are coming up roses.

On the other hand a doctor might describe a small rash as rosaceous. Unless of course it was a more significant virus known as roseola. A designer, either of fasions or household items, might call for the specific rosaniline dye, which by the way, isn't made from roses. An architect may specify a stain glass rosette window or wooden rosette cornices.

As you can see, roses and things rose, permeate our existence. To test your 'rose sense' take the little quiz below. When you submit your quiz the answers will be returned to you on another page.
